Baidu

The Chinese search and AI giant, active in open document-AI models.

Baidu is one of China’s largest technology companies, often described as the country’s equivalent of Google for its dominance in web search. It has invested heavily in artificial intelligence for years, spanning search, autonomous driving and large language models.

Recently Baidu has been active in open-source document AI, releasing models that can read and process dozens of pages of a document in a single pass while keeping memory use flat. Approaches like this push forward the practical task of turning scanned files, invoices and contracts into structured data — one of AI’s most useful and least hyped applications.

Baidu is part of a wave of Chinese labs releasing capable models openly, contributing to the global spread of high-quality AI tools.
