Baseten
An American company that hosts AI models and runs them for other businesses, so those businesses do not have to manage the hardware.
Baseten sells inference, which is the business of actually running a trained model and answering requests with it. A company that wants to use an open model in its product can either buy graphics cards, set up servers and keep them fed, or it can hand the model to a service like Baseten and pay per request. Most choose the second, which is why this layer of the industry has grown quickly and why Baseten was valued at around 13 billion dollars in 2026.
The trade off is the usual one with any supplier: convenience in exchange for trust. Your prompts, and sometimes your customers’ data, pass through someone else’s systems, which is why security researchers pay close attention to these providers.
