Carson Gross
Creator of the htmx JavaScript library and author of the No AI Fridays proposal.
Carson Gross is an American software developer, best known as the creator of htmx, a small library for building web pages that became popular among developers who felt modern web tooling had grown too complex. He co-wrote the book Hypermedia Systems and is a frequent, quotable voice in arguments about web architecture.
In August 2026 he published No AI Fridays, a one page site asking software teams to turn their AI coding assistants off one day a week. The argument is not that the tools are bad but that constant use creates blind spots and lets skills quietly erode, and that a day off is a cheap way to check. It reached the top of Hacker News within a day.
