Discovery Loop
A research startup founded in August 2026 by four senior Google AI engineers, structured as a public benefit corporation.
Discovery Loop is the company Jeff Dean, Sanjay Ghemawat, Oriol Vinyals and Quoc Le left Google to start in August 2026. Its stated focus is breakthroughs in machine learning, science and engineering, which is deliberately broad and typical of research labs founded by people who can raise money on their names alone.
Two details are worth noting. It is a public benefit corporation, a company structure that lets directors weigh a stated mission alongside profit. And Google both invested in it and signed a cloud partnership to supply its compute, so this is less a clean break than a spin out with the old employer still attached.
