ECDSA

A widely used method for creating digital signatures that prove a message really came from you, built on elliptic curves.

ECDSA is a way to sign something digitally. Think of it as a signature that anyone can check but only you can create. It is used all over the internet, for example to prove that a website, an app update or a payment message is genuine.

It works with a kind of maths called an elliptic curve, a particular curved shape whose numbers are very hard to reverse. The standard curves everyone uses were published by the US standards body NIST, which is why people care where their starting numbers came from.
