GitHub is where most of the world’s open-source software lives, including many of the AI tools we cover. Developers use it to store code, track changes and work together; increasingly, AI coding agents work directly inside it.

When an article says a project is “on GitHub”, it means the code is public: you can read it, download it and usually run it yourself for free.
