Grok Imagine
xAI's image generation and editing model, built into Grok.
Grok Imagine is the image side of xAI’s assistant Grok, available on the web and in the Grok mobile apps. Version 2.0, released in August 2026, took second place on both public LMArena image leaderboards, close behind OpenAI’s GPT-Image-2.
The more interesting part is the editing toolkit rather than the ranking. It includes selective editing of just one region of an image, subject cutouts with transparent backgrounds, combining up to five reference images in one generation, and resizing a picture to a new aspect ratio by generating the extra space. There is also a feature that produces characters, locations and props as separate assets while holding one visual style across all of them, which xAI describes as groundwork for video production. This is the general direction of image AI right now: away from one impressive picture from one prompt, toward tools for changing something bit by bit until it is right.
