Jane Street
A large quantitative trading firm that has become an unusually active investor in and customer of AI hardware.
Jane Street is a private trading firm that buys and sells financial instruments using its own models and its own money. Firms like it care intensely about speed and about the cost of computation, because both translate directly into profit.
That appetite has pulled it into AI news. It has invested in AI chip companies and, in at least one case, taken delivery of the hardware as a customer before leading the funding round, which makes its involvement a more informative signal than a typical venture investment.
