MathLive
An open-source web library that lets websites show and edit mathematical formulas, including an on-screen maths keyboard.
MathLive is a piece of reusable code that websites include when they want to display or let you type maths, like fractions and square roots. It also provides an on-screen keyboard for entering formulas.
It appears in the news because of a ChatGPT security flaw, where the library accepted messages from other parts of the page without checking who sent them. That is a classic kind of bug: the library itself is a normal, useful tool, but trusting every message it received turned it into a doorway.
