A Taiwanese chip designer best known for phone processors, now a design partner for custom AI accelerators and Nvidia's local AI computing chips.
MediaTek is one of the world’s largest fabless semiconductor companies, meaning it designs chips and has other firms manufacture them. For years it was mainly known for the Dimensity processors inside a huge share of Android phones, where its reputation was built on getting good performance out of a small power budget.
That skill turned out to matter for AI. MediaTek co-designed the chip behind Nvidia’s DGX Spark desktop AI machines, works on automotive platforms, and in August 2026 agreed to adopt Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion so its customers can design their own AI accelerators and slot them into Nvidia racks. Nvidia bought 3.5 billion dollars of MediaTek convertible bonds on the same day.
