Mental World Modeling
A framework that adds beliefs, intentions and social norms to world models, which normally track only physics.
Most world models track objects: where things are, how they move, what is hidden behind what. Mental World Modeling, proposed in a 2026 paper, argues that this misses half the picture, because what people do next depends on what they believe, want and consider appropriate.
The classic example is a cup moved into a cabinet while someone is out of the room. Physically the cup is in the cabinet, but the person will still look on the table. MENTIS is the reference implementation and Menti-Bench the test set the authors built to measure the difference, which turned out to be large.
