Pew Research Center
A nonpartisan American research organisation whose surveys and data studies are widely treated as a neutral reference point.
Pew Research Center is a nonprofit in Washington that runs public opinion surveys and data analyses without taking policy positions. It does not lobby and does not endorse, which is why its numbers get cited across otherwise hostile political camps and why journalists reach for them when they want a figure nobody will immediately dispute.
Its Data Labs arm has moved into measuring the internet itself. In August 2026 it published a study using the Common Crawl archive and the Open Pangram detector, finding that roughly 35 percent of web pages published since ChatGPT’s launch show signs of AI authorship. As Pew itself noted, detection is not proof, but at that scale the direction is informative.
