Phonon
A family of small open text-to-speech models from Gradium that Ollama can now run on a Mac.
Phonon is a set of small models that turn written text into spoken audio, made by a company called Gradium. There is an English version and separate smaller ones for French, German, Spanish and Portuguese, with dozens of voices to choose from.
You can run it through Ollama, a free tool for running AI models on your own computer, so the text never has to leave your machine. Worth knowing: some of the smaller versions are licensed for non-commercial use only.
