Trail of Bits
A US security research firm known for deep technical audits and, more recently, for testing what AI agents can do offensively.
Trail of Bits is a security consultancy that audits the kind of software everything else sits on: cryptography libraries, blockchain code, operating system components. It has a long habit of publishing what it finds rather than keeping it to clients, which is why its blog turns up regularly in security news.
Since 2026 it has also run Patch the Planet, a joint effort with OpenAI to use AI models to find and fix bugs in critical open-source software. That work gives it early access to cyber-focused models, and its published field reports are among the more grounded public evidence of what those models can actually do.
