Xiaomi
A large Chinese electronics maker, known for phones and electric cars, that has become a serious builder of open AI models through its MiMo family.
Xiaomi is one of those companies whose product list is faintly ridiculous in its range: smartphones, televisions, electric cars, air purifiers, rice cookers. Since 2025 it has added frontier AI models to that list, and unlike most consumer electronics firms dabbling in the field, it publishes them. Its MiMo models are released with downloadable weights under permissive licences, which means anyone can take them and run them without asking.
The reason to know the name is that Xiaomi has become one of the handful of companies keeping open models close to the commercial frontier. In September 2026 its MiMo-V2.6-Pro became the highest scoring open-weight model on Artificial Analysis’ Intelligence Index. It also publishes the training machinery alongside the models, which other researchers can learn from, and that tends to matter more over time than any single leaderboard position.
