Zhenwu V900
An AI accelerator chip designed by Alibaba's in-house semiconductor unit T-Head, announced in September 2026 for mass production in early 2027.
The Zhenwu V900 is a chip built for training and running AI models, made by T-Head, the semiconductor arm Alibaba set up to design its own silicon. Alibaba says it delivers three times the performance of its predecessor, the M890, and that it can be connected into clusters of up to 500,000 units. Mass production is planned for the first quarter of 2027.
The context is export controls. US rules limit which of Nvidia’s most capable chips Chinese companies can buy, so the large Chinese technology firms have been building alternatives themselves. Whether the V900 performs as claimed is not yet known independently, and the cluster figure matters more than the single chip number, because training at this scale is mostly a problem of making enormous numbers of chips work together reliably.
