The AI-written summaries at the top of Google search results.
AI Overviews are the machine-written summaries Google shows above normal search results. They answer many questions instantly, and they are also controversial: publishers argue the summaries use their content while taking away their readers.
In 2026 that argument reached courts and regulators in several countries, including a German case testing whether media law applies to AI summaries.
