Alexa+

Amazon's language-model-powered rebuild of Alexa, which understands conversation rather than fixed voice commands.

The original Alexa matched what you said against a list of known commands, which is why it was so easy to break by phrasing things slightly wrong. Alexa+ replaces that machinery with a large language model, so you can describe what you want in ordinary words, change your mind halfway through, and ask follow-up questions without starting over. Amazon says people have roughly twice as many exchanges with it as with the old Alexa.

Pricing has moved around. Alexa+ launched as a paid add-on at 19.99 dollars a month for anyone without a Prime membership. In August 2026 Amazon dropped that fee on Fire TV devices in the United States, upgrading compatible sticks, the Fire TV Cube and some third-party televisions automatically at no cost. The free tier stops at the television, though: the same assistant on Echo speakers, plus the more advanced camera and home features, still needs Prime or a paid plan.
