Black Hat

A long-running series of computer security conferences where researchers disclose new attacks and vulnerabilities.

Black Hat is one of the two big annual gatherings of the computer security world, held alongside DEF CON in Las Vegas each summer with additional events in Europe and Asia. It is where researchers present the attacks they have spent the year developing, and where companies increasingly choose to disclose incidents on their own terms rather than waiting for someone else to find them.

The name comes from the old shorthand of black hat for an attacker and white hat for a defender, though the conference itself is firmly on the defensive side. In recent years it has become a fixture in AI news too, because that is where several labs have gone public with what their autonomous agents did during internal security testing.
