Cerebras builds AI chips in an unusual way. Instead of wiring together many small processors, it makes one enormous “wafer-scale” chip, roughly the size of a dinner plate. The design is especially good at generating text with very low delay, which is why it turns up in efforts to make AI feel instant.

It has long been the outsider in a market Nvidia dominates. Partnerships like its tie-up with AMD, splitting a request between different chips for each part of the job, are how it carves out a place.
