AMD
A chip maker, and the main challenger to Nvidia in AI hardware.
AMD makes the processors and graphics chips that run much of modern computing, and it has become the most credible alternative to Nvidia for training and running AI. Its Instinct line of AI accelerators and EPYC server processors are what data centres buy when they want to avoid depending on a single supplier.
That rivalry matters beyond the two companies. Nvidia’s near-monopoly on AI chips is one reason the technology is expensive, so every deal AMD signs, with Anthropic or through partnerships like the one with Cerebras, chips away at a bottleneck the whole industry feels.
