CRISPR
A gene-editing method that can switch off or change a chosen gene, widely used to study what each gene does.
CRISPR works like a pair of molecular scissors that can be aimed at a specific spot in DNA. Scientists use it to cut or switch off a single gene and then watch what changes in the cell.
Do that for thousands of genes and you get a large catalogue, sometimes called an atlas, of cause and effect. That is the kind of data AI agents are now being used to read through, looking for patterns and leads that humans can test in the lab.
