Dario Amodei
Co-founder and CEO of Anthropic, and one of the more publicly cautious voices among AI lab leaders.
Dario Amodei runs Anthropic, the company behind Claude. He previously led research at OpenAI and left in 2020 with a group of colleagues, including his sister Daniela, over disagreements about how safety should be handled. Anthropic was founded on the premise that the safest way to influence powerful AI is to be among the people building it.
He writes and speaks a lot more than most CEOs about what could go wrong, including timelines for very capable systems and the economic disruption he expects. Critics point out the awkwardness of the position: warning loudly about a technology while racing to build it. He has generally answered that someone will build it either way.
