IBM Granite
IBM's family of open-weight language and speech models, released under a permissive licence so anyone can download and run them.
Granite is IBM’s line of open AI models. Open-weight means the trained model itself is published, not just an interface to it, so you can download it, run it on your own hardware, and adjust it. The models come in several sizes, usually measured in billions of parameters, and the smaller ones are deliberately built to run on an ordinary laptop or a modest server rather than a data centre.
The family covers text and speech. Recent releases focus on agent work: following multi-step instructions, calling tools in the right order, and checking results. IBM licenses them under Apache 2.0, which means you can use them in a commercial product without paying or asking.
