Le Chat is the chat assistant from Mistral AI, France’s leading AI lab. It plays a similar role to ChatGPT or Claude, and is central to Europe’s push to have a homegrown option rather than depending entirely on US providers.

Its significance is as much political as technical: investment in Mistral, including from Samsung and European funds, is partly a bet that Europe wants an AI champion of its own.
