Motion Picture Association
The trade body for the major US film studios and streaming services.
The Motion Picture Association represents the big American studios and streamers, including Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, Universal, Paramount, Sony Pictures and Netflix. Historically it is best known for the film ratings system, but its main job is lobbying and defending its members’ copyright.
It has become one of the most active organisations in the fight over generative AI. In 2026 it sent cease-and-desist letters to ByteDance over the Seedance and Seedream models, then in August signed a framework agreement covering how those models handle protected characters and actors. Notably, that agreement left the question of training data untouched.
