Nano Banana

Google's family of image generation and editing models, known for photorealistic results.

Nano Banana is Google’s image model family, and yes, the name started as an internal joke that stuck. It generates and edits pictures from a text description, and it is unusually good at photorealism, which is why it powers image features across Google products. Nano Banana Pro is the higher-quality version, Nano Banana 2 the newer generation.

That realism is also the source of its trouble. When Google briefly wired it into Google Earth in July 2026, users produced convincing fake satellite views of real places, and the feature was withdrawn within a day. Images generated with it normally carry a SynthID watermark.
