Qualcomm
US chip designer best known for smartphone processors, now pushing into AI data centre hardware.
Qualcomm designs the Snapdragon chips inside a large share of Android phones, and much of its money has historically come from mobile processors and wireless patents. Its on-device AI work matters for anyone interested in models that run on a phone rather than in a data centre.
More recently it has been trying to break into the AI server market dominated by Nvidia, and in July 2026 it signed a letter of intent with the European Commission alongside AMD and Nvidia to supply hardware for the EU’s planned AI gigafactories.
