SpaceX

Elon Musk's rocket company, which now also appears in AI coverage as a compute provider and as the owner of the code editor Cursor.

SpaceX is best known for rockets and the Starlink satellite network, and neither of those is why it turns up here. It has become part of the AI supply chain: it acquired the AI code editor Cursor in June 2026, and it appears among the data centre partners in the very large compute agreements labs signed through 2026.

Why a rocket company ends up leasing computing power is less strange than it sounds. Satellite networks, launch operations and AI training all need the same things at scale, namely land, power and money, and companies that already have those tend to end up in the same deals.
