The AI startup founded by former OpenAI executive Mira Murati; maker of the Inkling model.
Thinking Machines Lab was founded in 2025 by Mira Murati, OpenAI’s former technology chief, and quickly became one of the best-funded startups in history. Its model Inkling focuses on transparency: showing its reasoning in a form people can actually inspect.
The lab is worth watching as a test of whether a newcomer can still break into the top tier of AI, and whether openness about how a model thinks can be a selling point.
