Twist Bioscience
A company that synthesises DNA to order on silicon chips, supplying the genetic instructions labs need to turn a designed protein into a real one.
If you want a protein that has never existed, you first need the DNA that tells a cell how to build it. Twist Bioscience makes that DNA to order. Its trick is doing the chemistry on a silicon chip rather than in plastic plates, which shrinks the reaction volumes enormously and lets the company produce many thousands of distinct sequences at once, cheaply.
That capacity is what makes large AI protein design campaigns practical at all. A run testing over a thousand candidate designs is only affordable if writing the corresponding DNA is close to routine. Twist supplied and helped validate designs in Anthropic’s August 2026 protein binder campaign alongside Adaptyv Bio.
