Walden Robotics

A Toyota spin-off building humanoid robots that roll on wheels instead of walking.

Walden Robotics came out of the Toyota Research Institute and builds general-purpose robots with a humanoid upper body on a wheeled base. Skipping legs is a deliberate choice: walking is difficult, power-hungry and mostly useful for stairs, while a factory floor is flat.

What sets it apart from most of the humanoid field is sequencing. It had a robot working shifts inside a real Toyota plant before it announced its funding, rather than the other way round.
