Wikimedia is the non-profit organisation behind Wikipedia. It also runs Wikidata, a giant database of facts that other websites and apps rely on, and Wikimedia Commons, a library of free images and media. It is funded mostly by donations rather than ads.

It shows up in AI news because its sites are among the most heavily scraped on the internet. AI crawlers and agents hit its servers constantly, and the organisation has been vocal about wanting them to identify themselves and play fair.
