Anthropic Opened a Free School for Learning Its Own AI, 355 Lessons and No Credit Card
Claude Academy is Anthropic's new free learning hub, built around how the company trains its own employees. It covers everything from total-beginner basics to API-level technical work, with certificates at the end.
Anthropic opened Claude Academy on August 20, a free online learning hub with roughly 355 tutorials, prompting tips, and worked examples for anyone who wants to get better at using its AI tools. It’s built on the training material Anthropic actually uses to onboard its own employees, and it doesn’t require a credit card, or even an account, to start.
The courses are organized into separate paths for Claude.ai (the regular chatbot), Claude Cowork (Anthropic’s file-and-task automation tool), Claude Code (the coding assistant), Claude Tag (the Slack integration), and the developer API. Each path starts at a genuine “Claude 101” level and scales up from there, so someone who has never used an AI chatbot and someone building on the API through code both have a real entry point. Signing in lets you save your progress and earn a certificate when you finish a course; browsing without an account works too, and material is available in multiple languages, including Japanese.
What’s actually going on here: most AI companies treat education as an afterthought, a help page or a scattering of blog posts. Claude Academy is Anthropic packaging its internal training as a public product, and that’s a meaningful signal about where the company thinks the real bottleneck is. Model capability has been improving faster than most people’s ability to use it well; the gap between what Claude can do and what an average user actually asks it to do is large and, if you believe Anthropic’s own research on AI adoption, growing. Teaching people how to prompt, delegate, and verify AI output isn’t charity, it’s also how you turn casual users into people who trust the tool enough to pay for more of it.
What this means for you: if you’re just starting out with AI and have felt unsure where to begin, this is about as low-friction an entry point as exists right now, free, self-paced, and built specifically to avoid assuming prior knowledge. If you already use Claude regularly, the more advanced paths (Claude Code, the API, building actual workflows) are worth a look even if you skip the basics, since they cover patterns that aren’t always obvious from just using the chat interface day to day. For most casual users, this won’t change what you do with AI tomorrow, but it’s a genuinely useful place to send a friend or colleague who keeps asking “where do I even start.”

Anthropic Was Going to Raise Claude Sonnet 5's Price 50 Percent. It Just Cancelled That
The introductory price for Claude Sonnet 5 was only ever supposed to last through August. Anthropic just made it permanent instead of letting it jump 50 percent on September 1, right as OpenAI cut its own flagship's price.
