Broad Institute

A genomics research institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts, jointly run by MIT and Harvard.

The Broad Institute is one of the largest genomics research centres in the world and a frequent early user of AI tools for biology. Its researchers work on the genetic basis of disease, and much of the reference data other labs rely on comes out of it.

It shows up in AI news as a proving ground: when a lab like DeepMind releases a genomics model, the Broad is often among the first groups to report whether it found something real, such as flagging a disease-linked variant that earlier methods missed.
