Google DeepMind
Google's AI research division, maker of the Gemini models and AlphaFold.
Google DeepMind is the artificial-intelligence division of Google, formed by merging the original DeepMind lab with Google’s own AI research teams. It develops Google’s flagship Gemini models as well as scientific systems like AlphaFold.
DeepMind has a long track record of landmark results, from mastering the board game Go to predicting protein structures. That mix of pure research and product work makes it one of the most influential organisations in the field.
Because it sits inside Google, DeepMind can draw on vast compute resources and reach billions of users through products like Search and Android. It is a direct competitor to OpenAI and Anthropic, and a frequent source of both new models and the researchers other labs try to hire away.
