Shulman co-founded Suno and runs it as chief executive. A physicist by training who worked in machine learning before starting the company, he has become the public face of the argument that AI music tools are for people who would never otherwise make music, rather than a replacement for musicians.
That position has been tested repeatedly. Suno faces copyright litigation on both sides of the Atlantic, lost a case in Munich in 2026 over training on protected songs, and had one of its own investors publicly concede that its output competes with human artists. Shulman’s responses have generally taken the form of policy changes rather than legal argument, including stricter community guidelines and limits on bulk downloads aimed at people flooding streaming services.
