Preferred Sources
A Google setting that tells Search, Discover and Google News to show more from publications you have chosen yourself.
Preferred Sources lets you mark publications you trust so that Google surfaces them more often in Search, Discover and Google News, including inside AI Overviews and AI Mode. You can set it at google.com/preferences/source, and since August 2026 publishers can also embed a button on their own pages so you can switch it on while you are already reading them. Google says more than 345,000 unique sources had been selected this way as of May 2026.
For readers it is a rare piece of direct control over an algorithm, and Google reports that people are twice as likely to click through to a source they have marked. For publishers it is damage control rather than a cure: it nudges ranking, it does not guarantee placement, and it does nothing about AI answers that satisfy the question so completely that nobody clicks at all.
