Richard Sutton
A founder of reinforcement learning who thinks current AI methods are a dead end.
Richard Sutton is one of the architects of reinforcement learning, the approach in which a system learns by trying things and being rewarded for what works. It is the technique behind game-playing breakthroughs and much of how modern models are refined after training.
He won the Turing Award for that work and has since argued that learning from a fixed pile of text is inefficient compared with learning continuously from experience. His startup Oak Lab is the attempt to prove it.
