Hugging Face, the platform where developers and researchers share, test and download open AI models, is reportedly fielding acquisition offers that would value it at around $13 billion, according to Business Insider and confirmed by follow-up reporting from TechCrunch and others. The company has reportedly been talking to a bank to help evaluate bids, but no buyer or deal has been named, and Hugging Face hasn’t confirmed anything publicly.
If a deal happens anywhere near that number, it would represent a huge jump from Hugging Face’s last funding round in 2023, when it raised money at a $4.5 billion valuation led by Salesforce Ventures with backing from Alphabet, IBM and others. A $13 billion price tag would be nearly three times that. The timing lines up with a broader wave of consolidation in AI infrastructure: Stripe recently paid around $7.5 billion for OpenRouter, another company that sits in the plumbing between AI models and the apps that use them.
